Two people killed and fifteen were injured in a road accident in Gonjipur Battala area on Rangpur-Jaldhaka road under Gangachara upazilla in Rangpur on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sumon Hossain, 25, resident of Gobindaganj upazilla in Gaibandha, and Jahangir Hossain alias Jahanur, 35, resident of Gangachra upazilla of the district.

According to the police and local people, a Rangpur bound bus, hailing from Jaldhaka-Nilphamari skidded off the road and fell in a roadside ditch when it reached Gonjipur Battala area at about 8:00am, leaving two people dead and 15 injured.

Of the injured, ten were admitted at the upazilla health complex and Rangpur Medical College Hospital. On information, police and fire-service men conducted a rescue operation at the spot.

Gangachara police officer-in-charge Mohamaad Dulal Hossain said that the bodies were sent to RMCH morgue for post-mortem examinations.

Police also seized the bus but the driver and his assistant managed to escape, he added.
